Sunshine for Elderly Companion Services FAQ's

For the elderly who stay in their own home, how does companion care help with the feelings of isolation and depression that can come with aging?

~With regularly scheduled visits, consistent human contact eases loneliness and gives seniors something to look forward to.  Also, there is the stimulation from something fresh, with exploring outside activities and adventures.

How can caregivers get Mom out of the house?  She refuses to go with us!  We don’t have time to socialize with her and she doesn’t like doing anything that our family does.

~It’s easier for seniors to engage in activities that hold an interest to them.  At first, they may feel that “They’ve been there and done that.”  Gradually, if a familiar opportunity is offered to them again, they may long to give it a try-one more time!  They may even become enthusiastic to try something new, “Just for the fun of it.!”
~Socializing and networking with other seniors allow them to see that they are not the only ones going through the aging process.  Soon, they may find many common interests among their peers.  It is a way to develop new relationships by sharing old memories and making new, but different memories.

How can the family approach a situation of their loved one rejecting any assistance, insistent upon being totally independent?

~Sometimes we forget that we all need help, at one time or another in our life.  But that help is easier to accept, from a friend.  So, that is the approach our caregivers use.
~Our professional companion can simply be introduced as a “family friend.”  Then over time, we establish a relationship with your elderly loved one.  This is done by just dropping by ( with permission) to check on them and TLC phone calls.  With regular contact and visits, we are building a trusting relationship.  As the relationship expands, the senior becomes open to allowing assistance.  Either the assistance is requested by the senior or the caregiver asks, while making suggestions how the caregiver may assist.

Do you only offer the services listed on your website, or if there is a specific service I need for my senior parent will you offer it?

~There are many additional services we offer, as the need arises.  Please feel free to ask, for whatever specific service that you may want for your senior parent.  We are always willing to work with our families, offering you all that we can give.

What if I want the services of a loving caregiver but, I don't know specifically what will be best for my loved one?  Can you help me decide on the best services for my loved one?

~We will do everything we can, to assist you in making correct choices that will best suit your loved one and benefit each family member involved.

How often will you visit/care for my Mom if I request your services?

~You decide what will work best with our regularly, scheduled visits.  It can be daily, a couple of times per week, or once a week.  If it doesn’t work, we can always change it.

What happens after I purchase companion services for my loved one?

~You will receive an introductory phone call giving you more information.  During this phone call, we will be learning how we can help you and you will be learning if this is what you had in mind.

Where do you offer your services?

~Presently, our services are available in the Sandpoint, ID area.

Do I have to have a PayPal account in order to purchase your services online?

~No, all of our online transactions are processed through PayPal, but you do not have to have a PayPal account to pay by credit card.

How can I pay for your services?

~We accept personal checks, credit cards, and debit cards.

Are your services available on weekends and holidays?

~Yes, our loving caregivers are available during the week, weekends, and holidays.

I see that there is a minimum of 3 hours for companion services.  Do the 3 hours have to be consecutive hours, or can they be spread out during the week?

~The hours purchased can be consecutive, or they can be broken up throughout the week, whichever works best for you and your loved one.

Does the time purchased include the caregiver's travel time?

~Yes, the travel to and from your loved one is included in the time you purchase with our companion services.
