Sunshine for Elderly

History

          My life was always enriched somehow, by the seniors in it.  Grandma lived with us, when Grandpa died.  She was there for me, listening to my challenges as a teenager and happily offering advice.  Then, Aunt Angie who still went out dancing at the age of 80 years old became my best buddy and confidant.  

          In college, I volunteered calling Bingo in a nursing home.  To my surprise, the elderly reflected my teen years, again.  They were zealously competitive, individually and in their cluster peer groups that they formed.

          My growing experiences with the elderly proved to be most valuable, in helping me to arrive at two realizations.  Because I was listened to, I learned how to listen with my heart.  Also, it showed me that life is not just about doing.  It’s about putting our whole heart into what we do.
         
          Another surprise came to me as an adult.  I had a senior friend who regularly went out to lunch with me.  I loved hearing about his fascinating life stories, portraying so much wisdom.  One day, he said how fortunate he is to have his health and material comforts.  But, the best part is spending time with me.  That feeling was mutual.  It was then, I began looking at how I can gift more of my time to others.  Thus, the birth of these services “Sunshine for Elderly.”

Mission Statement

          Our mission is never to take away choices from the elderly receiving our companion home care even when faced with a dilemma, as long as the seniors are capable of living independently.  We want to support them in their autonomy, to continue having the highest quality of a life that is filled with dignity, respect, and compassion.
